Dear Partners in Inclusion,
I’m writing on behalf of the Board of Directors to share an important update about MCIE’s leadership.
Carolyn Teigland is retiring as Chief Executive Officer. Throughout her tenure, Carolyn was a passionate advocate for creating inclusive schools where all students are welcomed, valued, and supported. Her commitment to advancing inclusive educational practices has helped shape and strengthen the organization’s mission and impact. Reflecting on her time with MCIE, Carolyn shared that leading the organization “has been a tremendous privilege and honor” and called the experience one of the highlights of her 34 years as an educator.
The Board has appointed Tim Villegas as Interim Chief Executive Officer, effective immediately. Tim has served MCIE for six years, most recently as Chief Growth Officer and brings deep familiarity with our programs, partnerships, and strategic direction.
Brittni Sammons, Chief Learning Officer, will take on an expanded leadership role during this period, supporting key operational and programmatic functions.
Your points of contact for our programs and services remain the same. We will share updates as this transition progresses. Please don’t hesitate to reach out directly with any questions.
With gratitude for your commitment to this work,
Kim McKay
President, Board of Directors
Maryland Coalition for Inclusive Education
